After the Navy Hospital closed in 1949, the National Bureau of Standards gathered top scientists together and moved them into the former isolation ward buildings to conduct their top secret work for the Navy. Today the 400 acre facility still stands and is known as the Naval Surface Warfare Assessment Center.
